Fetish Mask a Brief History

Modern day masks are worn traditionally as Halloween Masks,
Masked Balls, Fantasy Masks as well as Masked Art.  The earliest
know reference to Masks is approximately 12,000 B.C. found in a
prehistoric cave in France. The cave drawing depicted a man
wearing a deer head. History is filled with masks of all shapes,
sizes and purpose. They are used in tribal rituals, pagan
ceremonies, and theatrical productions. The masks have origins
ranging from classical myths and legends to day-to-day objects of
whimsy and Art. Pagan ceremonies often accompanied using
Masks for concealment from persecution and to portray the gods
they worshiped. Often these religions were misunderstood and
were portrayed as demonic by those who were ignorant of what was
actually believed and practiced with regard to what today is
regarded as Wicca (White Witches), sorcerers and priests.  Both the
ancient Greeks and Japanese used masks in theatrical
productions utilizing men to play women characters as women
were not allowed to participate in theatrical productions. In addition
the ancient Greeks put on masked plays of mythology and fantasy
portraying the gods of Olympus.

Dark Side of the Mask

Masks came into prevalent use to disguise the wearer while
torturing victims and executions. During the middle ages masks
struck terror in the hearts of those unfortunate enough to be caught
up in criminal activities, enemies of the King and those on the
wrong political or religious side of the inquisition. During the
inquisition the Catholic Church persecuted among others
worshipers of the sacred feminine burning thousands of women at
the stake. During the 16th though the 20th centuries executioners
used masks for disguise while guillotining, hanging or public
quartering and dismemberment of prisoners.  These hooded
Masks are still worn today in some parts of the world where people
are executed by beheading or hanged.
Fetish Mask

Definition of Fetishism, the attribution of religious or mystical qualities to inanimate objects as a primary
stage in the development of a culture or civilization.

Masks today are bought as Fetish Masks which allow concealment of identity and freedom to explore
sexual fantasies. The Fetish Masks are worn by Masters and slaves although for different purposes as
well as Dom's, Dominatrix’s and submissives. Today the Master or Dominatrix wearing a mask denotes
the awesome power over the slave or submissive stretching boundaries while still striking terror in the
hearts of those slaves or submissives.  Slaves wear masks for punishment, or to denote that they are
owned by their Master or Mistress while wearing a companion Mask. The companion Mask is generally a
matching smaller Mask which duplicates the Masters Mask or Mistress Mask and is decorated in the same
style as the Master or Mistress Mask. This informs other Masters, Dom’s, Dominatrices and Mistresses
know that the slave is owned and not to be approached with out the Master or Mistresses consent.

While the masks of today are generally gruesome reminders of eras gone by and history over the
centuries we suggest a new approach for Fetish Balls, Fantasy Play or staged shows. The Masks are
beautifully decorated and hand crafted with sensual silks, beads, sequins, feathers and pearls. Part
Fantasy part Fetish masks are always fun, lavishly adorned and make a mystical statement.
